Grocery shopping on a budget does not have to be tedious any more. By taking some extra time before your shopping trip, you can save hundreds of dollars a year on your grocery bills. From eating leftovers to clipping coupons, grocery shopping no longer has to be a fearful task.
Instead of shopping at a high end grocer, chose a discount grocery store. Oftentimes, these stores will sell the same products with the same brand name for a much lower price. Try experimenting with store brand items. There are many times when these are better than even the original! Store brands can save you up to seventy five percent from what you would pay for a name brand.
Buy in bulk! If your favorite store is having a sale on nonperishable items, stock up. Canned fruits and veggies can be stored for anywhere from two to five years. Even bread can be frozen and saved for later. You can even buy meat in bulk and store in the freezer if wrapped and stored properly. Additionally, a one time investment of a vacuum sealer can keep meats and vegetables fresh for months in the freezer while locking in taste and nutrients and keeping out unwanted air and freezer burn. There are dozens of vacuum sealers available, from inexpensive to a quality commercial vacuum sealer used in restaurants.
While cutting out coupons can be time consuming, you will save yourself in the long run. Many coupons last for several weeks. Remember to keep an organized system for sorting and saving coupons. Only cut out coupons for items that you would buy anyways- cutting out unnecessary coupons defeats the purpose! Compare this week's coupons with store ads. You can often double the savings when you use a coupon for an item that is already on sale. Scout out grocery stores that offer two times the savings on coupons. Many stores will double the value of your coupon, giving you even extra bang for your buck! If you prefer to shop at a certain grocery mart, always make use of their card member advantages, which can often give you a hefty discount.
Gone are the days of throwing away leftovers. Instead, create another meal out of them. Extra chicken can be turned into fajitas or even a yummy toping for a salad. Instead of buying prepackaged snacks, buy them in their original packaging to save money. Cut up your own fruits and veggies instead of paying for someone else to do it! Even though it may take a little extra time, your bank account balance will thank you later.
